Felon found to be living illegally in Kansas City sentenced to prison again
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A Mexican National who has been convicted of several felonies has been sentenced to prison again after he was found to be living in Kansas City illegally.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri announced on Friday, March 28, that Omar Zamora-Guerra, 35, of Kansas City, has been sentenced for illegal reentry by an alien previously convicted of a felony.
Court records indicated that Zamora-Guerra was also sentenced for violations of the terms of his supervised release related to an earlier conviction for the same crime. He was sentenced to a total of 6 years and 2 months in prison without the chance for parole as a result. He pleaded guilty to the crimes in September 2024.
Judicial officials noted that Zamora-Guerra admitted he did not have permission to lawfully enter or stay in the U.S. Federal law requires permission for reentry to the U.S. after one has been convicted of a felony.
In 2020, court records revealed that Zamora-Guerra was convicted of illegal re-entry after a felony in October of 2020 and served more than 3 years in prison as a result. After his release, he was deported to his native country of Mexico, however, he returned before his May 2024 arrest.
Judicial leaders indicated that this is Zamora-Guerra’s third conviction for illegal reentry into the country. He also has a past conviction for assault for which he spent time in state prison.
