Five brave and talented students took their best talents to the stage Saturday afternoon at the first-ever Miss Exceptional Pearl Pageant, showcasing their empowerment and passion.

Each Richland School District One student performed talents from singing, dancing and even playing instruments in front of a supportive audience.

Following rounds of passion performances, a Q&A session, and an evening gown performance, Cynthia Reese was crowned Miss Exceptional Pearl. Reese won a 16-carat pearl necklace sponsored by Carolina Fine Jewelry, a white gold necklace, the crown, and year-long recognition. In second place as Miss Sparkle is Aspen Mickens, and in third place as Miss Sparkle is Makayla Moody.

Miss Exceptional Pearl Pageant Director Aundrea Larrymore said the pageant gives the students a chance to shine by doing the things they love. "This pageant is really about creating an opportunity for young ladies who don't necessarily have the opportunity to showcase their talents, their passions, and their abilities," said Larrymore. "As people think of special education they think of disabilities, but these ladies have many abilities and many strengths to offer society."

Larrymore said the event strives to empower, inspire and promote self-expression while highlighting the beauty of one's differences and the importance of embracing diversity.
