
Scranton women’s tennis was eliminated in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, falling, 4-0, against Stevens Institute of Technology at Carnegie Mellon University on Thursday.
The loss marked the end of the Royals’ season, which featured the program’s fifth Landmark Conference title and first since 2018.
Meanwhile, three Scranton players were named to the Landmark All-Conference teams, as announced by the conference Thursday.
Mayjah Jean-Pierre earned first-team singles honors for the first time in her career. She finished the year with a 13-4 record, primarily at the No. 1 singles position.
Daniella Wisniewski and Erin O’Mara each earned second-team doubles honors, after going 9-5 as a doubles team. The accolade marked Wisniewski’s third all-conference selection, while O’Mara earned her first bid.
Baseball
Lackawanna 8, Sussex County 4: Jake Kelleher had three hits and an RBI, leading Lackawanna over Sussex in the Region XIX Division II quarterfinals.
Deacon Brown and John Hughes each added two hits for the Falcons, while Mark Zuppo had a triple.
George Creighton (1-1) earned the win, striking out a batter in 0.2 innings of relief. Starter Daniel Jacobs pitched four innings, with two strikeouts and four runs allowed.
Lackawanna 11, Mercer County 9: Deacon Brown had three hits and four other Falcons added two hits, as the Falcons defeated Mercer County in the Region XIX Division II semifinals.
John Hughes, Louis Kegerreis, Mark Zuppo and Nick Matson each finished with two hits. Brown, Hughes and Kegerreis each had doubles, while Matson claimed a triple.
Ryan Novakowski (5-3) earned the win, allowing two runs and four hits over 1.2 innings of relief. Starter Trey Sajeski struck out two batters and allowed six hits over three innings.
Men’s tennis
Two Scranton players were named to the Landmark All-Conference teams, as announced by the conference.
Max Dombrowski earned first-team singles honors. The sophomore, who was named to the first team for the second-straight year, finished 8-7 on the year from the No. 1 position.
Alongside Lucas Kotcho, Dombrowski also earned second-team doubles honors. The accolade marked the duo’s second consecutive selection.
Women’s lacrosse
Led by head coach Krista Strausser and assistant coach Sarah McCormick, Marywood was named the Atlantic East Conference’s Co-Coaching Staff of the Year.
The Pacers went 9-7 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
In addition, Avery Meighan, Kaitlyn Smith, Tori Wilson, Natalie Yilanjian and Lana Sorg were named to the All-Atlantic East first team, while Kortney Harry and Emily McLaughlin earned second-team honors.
