Bermuda Defeat Panama In CAC Qualifier
Bermuda’s Men’s National Field Hockey team faced Panama in a 5th and 6th place play-off that concluded in a dramatic shoot-out, with Bermuda triumphing 4-3 in the shoot-out after a 2-2 draw at the end of regulation time.
Bermuda’s starting line-up included Justin Dill, Nathan Bothello, Alexander Godet, Aaron Madeiros, Gareth Tavares, Hemijah Bean, Donovan Simmons, Jonah Trott, Isaac Davis, Rees Young, and Jordache Rawson. Substitutes were Aizaya Smith, Xyaire Smith, Makie De Souza, Richard Minors, Sven Curley, and Owen Curley.
Panama’s starting line-up featured Angel Molina, Rodrigo Flores, Juan Miranda, Giancarlo Garibaldi, Eduardo Gordon, Angelo Boodie, Jose Donado, Yomar Martinez, Elvis Salazar, Yeison Suira, and Rocendo Villanueva. Substitute players were Jasson Miranda, Adonys Rodriguez, Herald Medina, Victor Acosta, Ariel Coronado, Nelson Reales, and Aldahir Ornano.
Bermuda started strongly, with Jordache Rawson converting a penalty corner within the first two minutes. However, Panama responded when substitute Adonys Rodriguez equalized in the 29th minute, and Angelo Boodie put Panama ahead just moments later, giving them a 2-1 lead at halftime.
Bermuda showed resilience after the break, with Rawson scoring his second goal in the 34th minute to level the score at 2-2. Despite both teams’ efforts to find a winner, the score remained unchanged, leading to a shoot-out.
In the shoot-out, Alexander Godet’s initial attempt for Bermuda was unsuccessful, while Panama’s Adonys Rodriguez scored. Hemijah Bean then leveled for Bermuda. Panama’s Jasson Miranda missed, but Makie De Souza could not capitalize for Bermuda.
Panama’s Juan Miranda was then saved by the Bermudian goalkeeper. Jordache Rawson scored, giving Bermuda a 2-1 lead. Panama’s Yeison Suira missed, but Xyaire Smith missed the opportunity to extend Bermuda’s lead. Yomar Martinez then leveled the shoot-out at 2-2.
In sudden death, Adonys Rodriguez scored for Panama, making it 3-2. Rawson was then fouled by the Panama keeper, resulting in a penalty stroke which he converted to level the score at 3-3. Jasson Miranda missed again for Panama, and Alexander Godet missed his second attempt for Bermuda. Juan Miranda then missed for Panama, allowing Hemijah Bean to score the decisive goal, securing a 4-3 shoot-out victory for Bermuda.
