A shooting in South Philadelphia has left one man dead and two others wounded on Thursday night, police said.

Philadelphia Police Department Inspector D F Pace said the shooting happened inside a home on the 700 block of Tree Street just before 9:30 p.m., which is just south of Snyder Avenue.

Pace said officers responded to the scene and found a 38-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head. He said medics pronounced him dead at the scene at 9:43 p.m.

A 45-year-old man who was shot multiple times ran south on 7th Street and entered another home about a block away after the shooting, police said. He was taken to Jefferson Hospital and placed in extremely critical condition, according to Pace.

The third man — a 36-year-old man — was shot in the back. He was also taken to Jefferson and was placed in stable condition.

Pace said police believe the 38-year-old man who died and the 45-year-old were the two shooters in the incident. So far, Pace said, police have recovered a handgun and six shell casings. The handgun was recovered outside the home on Tree Street and police believe there were two weapons used in the shooting.

Pace said the involvement of the 36-year-old man isn't known at this time.

Pace said there was another person inside the home on Tree Street at the time of the shooting and they will be questioned as part of the investigation.

Pace said there isn't a threat to the community due to the shooting.
