ADBI-OECD-ILO Roundtable on Labor Migration in Asia: Maximizing the Impact of Labor Migration on Development

Summary
Labor migration plays a central role in Asian economies, and recent trends and challenges emphasize the need to utilize knowledge-sharing platforms to explore best practices and policy solutions in the region.
Coorganized by ADBI, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the International Labour Organization (ILO), the 14th Annual Roundtable on Labor Migration in Asia will provide a platform for experts to discuss labor migration trends, policies, country and regional experiences, and best practices. The roundtable will also examine international standards on fair recruitment; trends and policies in seafaring; skills mobility partnerships and existing regional cooperation frameworks; good practices and challenges in occupational safety and health; and evaluate the contribution of remittances to countries’ socioeconomic development.
Participants will also have a site visit to the Foreign Residents Support Center to learn about the Japanese government’s support extended to foreign nationals living and working in Japan.
Objectives
- To facilitate the exchange of knowledge on recent migration trends and policies in developing countries in Asia and the Pacific
- To examine policies and governance frameworks for migrant labor, particularly on fair recruitment, occupational safety and health, skills mobility, and seafaring
- To strengthen networks among labor experts and government officials in developing countries
Target Participants
- Senior government officials from 18 ADB DMCs and those from OECD and ILO member countries
- International experts from think tanks, academia, and international organizations
